The school board election is Nov. 5.

At stake are the seats held by Paula Calia, Jenna Drake, Christina “Tina” Lands and Colleen Murphy. The term for the seats held by Drake, Lands and Murphy is three years.

Calia was appointed to the school board to fill the unexpired term of Bernard Fouignes, following his resignation in January. The unexpired term is for one year.

The seats held by Calia, Lands and Murphy are earmarked for East Windsor Township residents. Drake represents Hightstown Borough on the school board. Seven of the nine seats are set aside for East Windsor Township residents and two are for Hightstown Borough residents.

The nominating petition must be signed by at least 10 registered voters who live in the town in which the candidate lives. The petition may be signed by the candidate.

Candidates for school board must be at least 18 years old and be registered to vote in the town that they seek to represent on the school board.

They may not have an interest in, or hold a claim against the school board.

They may not serve on the municipal governing body and may be disqualified from holding office because of conviction of certain crimes.

Nominating petitions and the school board packet are available through the Mercer County Clerk’s Office, under the “Elections – Election-Related Links” tab, at www.mercercounty.org.
