Haas and the driver, whose name has not been released, were traveling north on Lanwin Boulevard near Providence Drive in a 2024 Tesla Model Y electric vehicle when it left the road and struck a tree at 3:49 a.m. Aug. 20, police said.

The 18-year-old driver remains in serious condition at Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

The impact caused serious intrusion into the passenger compartment of the Tesla, trapping the driver and the passenger inside the vehicle, police said. First responders immediately began efforts to extricate them from the vehicle.

Life-saving measures were made by emergency medical technicians from the West Windsor Division of Fire & Emergency Services, the East Windsor EMS and the Robbinsville EMS, and paramedics from Capital Health Systems, police said.

Lanwin Boulevard was closed for six hours during the investigation. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team was dispatched to help with the investigation.
