Three New York residents were charged with shoplifting for allegedly taking $1,012 worth of spray paint from the Home Depot on Route 33 Aug. 18, according to the East Windsor Police Department.

The three suspects left the area in a white van, but the registration was not on file with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. A police officer saw the van pulling into the parking lot at the Tavern on the Lake in Hightstown, and conducted a motor vehicle stop.

Police were told by store representatives that the spray paint had been placed in storage bins. The police officer who stopped the van saw the stolen items in plain view inside the van, according to reports.

The three suspects – a 34-year-old and a 29-year-old from The Bronx, N.Y. and a 34-year-old from New York City – were charged with shoplifting. The 34-year-old Bronx resident was also charged with driving while suspended and having fictitious plates.

They were processed and released.
