The new Bordentown City municipal complex received a $250,000 boost secured in the state budget.

City officials thanked State Sen. Troy Singelton for helping secure the funds, which will help upgrade lighting, security and infrastructure needs.

“These funds will go a long way to reduce the burden on local taxpayers while supporting some of the crucial upgrades needed — including lighting and security — before we can start hosting meetings and events at the new city hall,” officials said in a social media post.

In December 2020, Joseph Bonaparte’s Point Breeze estate was sold by Divine Word Missionaries for $4.6 million as part of a three-way deal with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the City of Bordentown and D&R Greenway Land Trust.

The historic 55-acre property built in 1816 that runs along Crosswicks Creek and the Delaware River will now become a state park.

Former Bordentown City Mayor James E. Lynch at the time called Point Breeze becoming a state park a “once in a lifetime opportunity” for the city and a “win-win” for all parties involved.

The city purchased approximately 5.44 acres of the property for just under $1.66 million in their portion of the deal. It includes a couple of mid-20th Century buildings that Divine Word had created over its time on the property.

The city moved their City Hall and police headquarters to the buildings.

Singleton recently met with Mayor Jennifer Sciortino with a ceremonial $250,000 check and to highlight the investment and to see exactly how the funding would benefit the project upgrades.
