The Richard T. Barrett Paving Co., which is based in Trenton, was awarded a contract for $722,560 to repave and make other improvements to Smithfield Road, Devon Avenue and Irwin Place.

The three streets will be treated to a mill-and-overlay project. The top layer of asphalt is removed and a new layer is installed.

The project also includes drainage pipe replacements because of deteriorated pipes, and concrete curb replacements as needed.

Barrett was one of five bidders for the Smithfield Road, Devon Avenue and Irwin Place project. The bids ranged from Barrett’s low bid of $722,560 to a high bid of $839,309.

The Richard T. Barrett Paving Co. also was awarded a contract for $779,758 for roadwork on streets included in the 2023 road program.

Carson Road, Mulberry Street and Shinney Lane are among the streets being repaved through a mill-and-overlay process. There is some limited work on Manor Boulevard and Helen Avenue.

Sturwood Way, Pembroke Court, Wexford Drive and Little Circle also are being repaved. The project includes curb replacements where it is necessary, and handicap ramp upgrades.

The five bids for the 2023 road program ranged from Barrett’s low bid of $779,758 to a high bid of $948,263.
