George C. Denzer

George C. Denzer passed away suddenly on June 3, 2024 at Penn Medicine Plainsboro Hospital.

Born in Jersey City, NJ on November 29, 1939 to George and Christine Denzer, he lived there until 1950 when the family moved to Livingston, NJ. His younger sister, Nancy Denzer Tiensch, predeceased him. He attended Steven’s Institute of Technology, studying engineering and chemistry, and received a master’s as well as election to Tau Beta Pi. He greatly valued the education Stevens gave him and was a life-long supporter of the school.

In 1969, he married his wife, Joan, with whom he recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. The couple lived in Plainsboro, NJ throughout their married life. Their daughter, Alyssa, lives in Washington, DC with her husband, David Sturgeon, and son, Dashiell Denzer-Sturgeon.

George worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb in Lawrenceville as an IT professional for the science labs until retiring. Never content to be idle, George spent his retirement years volunteering. An ardent environmentalist, he was the treasurer for the NJ Sierra Club Chapter for many years. He also ran the AARP tax preparation site at Plainsboro Library and was often specially requested!

George also loved sports cars, especially Porsches, and raced with friends from Stevens at Limerock Raceway during his graduate years. A longtime rail fan, he spent many hours building complicated model train track layouts, a hobby shared with his grandson. He was also a voracious reader and book collector, focusing on rail and military history.

A gentle man, George loved puns, the more far out the better. He also loved pizza, and continuing a habit from college days, strong coffee, enjoying many cups throughout the day. A pushover for cats, he happily adopted a litter of strays who led a pampered life in his home.

He will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite environmental organization.

Arrangements are under the direction of A.S. Cole Son & Co., 22 North Main Street, Cranbury, NJ.
