her husband of nearly sixty years, Peter C. Turner, her parents, Jesse and Howard Moffett, and her sister, Patricia Campbell.

Katie was born on May 20, 1940, in Easton, Maryland. She attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland on a full scholarship earning a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. Her creativity was evident even at that age, and she was frequently caught knitting in class! Katie (or Kay as she was called then) was accepted to Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, but after fainting at her first sight of blood, she selected a different path! She was also an accomplished equestrian and enjoyed sailing and spending time on the Chesapeake Bay and ocean.

In her final year at St. Mary’s, she was set up on a blind date and met her future husband, Peter.

In 1960 Katie and Peter were married and living on Bainbridge naval base, making friends they would keep for life. After Peter left active duty, the Turners moved to Newington, Connecticut, where they started their family and lived for the next 20+ years. Katie decorated Oxford Drive into a warm and inviting home, utilizing her unique creativity and artistic eye. Katie was quickly involved as an active volunteer in community organizations, Grace Episcopal Church, Girl Scouts and, of course, the Newington schools, serving as a room mother for all her children’s classes.

An accomplished weaver and independent artisan, there seemed to be no craft that Katie couldn’t master, whether it was sewing, knitting, crocheting, weaving, painting, floral arrangements, gardening, ceramics or beading. Her craftsmanship was exquisite, with many of her projects winning awards at various venues and judged competitions. A 30+ year member of the Handweavers Guild of America, traveling across the country for meetings and conferences brought her much joy. One of her last accomplishments was to complete her 2024 HGA sample, which was mailed out to active members just before her passing.

We will always remember her creativity, love of travel, reading, the beach, Grounds for Sculpture, Broadway shows, Pops concerts, the symphony, NYC, craft shows, antiquing, games such as Wordle and Sudoku, supporting her children and grandchildren in their endeavors and, of course, chocolate!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katie’s name to the cancer organization of your choice or to St. David’s Episcopal Church in Cranbury, New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Cranbury, New Jersey, followed by a luncheon at the Cranbury Inn. To share a condolence with her family, please visit www.duksa.net.
